Press Handstand Foundations

Build the foundations for a stronger press handstand with this intermediate skill-focused workout. Combining weighted flexibility exercises, active compression drills, and progressive press handstand variations, this session develops the strength, mobility, and coordination needed to transition smoothly from the floor into a handstand. Perfect for athletes working toward their first press or refining control throughout the movement.

Overview

Build a Strong Foundation

This session progresses from improving the mobility required for a press handstand into compression strength and press-specific skill work. Begin by increasing hamstring and pancake flexibility before strengthening the muscles responsible for lifting the legs and maintaining body tension. During the skill section, prioritize slow, controlled repetitions and focus on quality movement over successfully completing every press. Use assistance when needed and rest enough between attempts to maintain good technique. Perform this workout 2–3 times per week to steadily improve your press handstand strength and mechanics.
