Develop stronger, more controlled backbends by improving spinal extension, shoulder mobility, hip flexibility, and the active strength needed to support deeper positions.
This beginner-to-intermediate backbend workout combines mobility, active flexibility, and strengthening to develop the positions needed for controlled backbending. Rather than focusing only on passive flexibility, the session builds the strength and body awareness needed to actively support your range and finishes with core re-engagement after extension work.
Use this workout 1–2 times per week as a dedicated backbend or flexibility session. It can also complement your handstand, mobility, or skill training, but ideally complete it when your shoulders, spine, and posterior chain are fresh rather than after heavy strength work.
Think about distributing your backbend, not just bending farther. Focus on creating extension through your upper back, shoulders, and hips rather than relying primarily on your lower back.
